It's easy to see why some artists have trouble parting with their work. So much time, practice, thought and energy goes into each new piece, it becomes something very precious. For me, however, making artwork for others has always seemed like a natural thing to do . . . maybe because I'm a bit of a pleaser by nature, but also because art is meant to be shared.
I do have a few pieces I've made and kept for myself, however. One is a large painting I made to hang above my bed. It's a modern, stylized take on the view we had from our camp near Blind River, ON, where I grew up. The style of the painting contributes to the look and feel I want to create in the space, but the chosen subject matter is meaningful and brings me back to a good place every day I see it.
This is the experience I want to share with everyone who decides to acquire one of my pieces. Whether it's a bathroom, bedroom, boardroom or some other bare wall, every kind of work space or sanctuary we create for ourselves should be inspiring and representative of who we are at our best.
This is exactly what I'm doing, when I'm at my best.
